2016: Ted Cruz Headed to Iowa to Address Homeschoolers

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), a potential 2016 GOP presidential candidate who resonates with Tea Partiers and Evangelical voters, will make another trip to Iowa in March to speak at a homeschooling rally.

Vicki Crawford, an organizer for the Network of Iowa Christian Home Educators (NICHE), told the Washington Post that Cruz would headline their event on March 18 in Des Moines.

She said Cruz has been “very supportive of educational freedom” and added that she thought Cruz would “be a wonderful choice to step into the ring in 2016.”

Cruz keynoted the Reagan Dinner for the Iowa GOP last October, and Iowa political observers noted how powerfully Cruz, whose father is a pastor, resonated with Iowa’s Evangelical community which dominates its caucuses.

In what is expected to be a wide-open 2016 race without a clear front-runner, Cruz, because of his staunch Tea Party backing, may have a high floor of support should he choose to enter the 2016 race. In a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll of potential 2016 candidates, Cruz led all Republicans among Tea Party voters, garnering 28% of their support.
