Brian Terry's Family Feels Abandoned By Their Congressman

Brian Terry’s family claims the family’s lifelong congressman, John Dingell, has abandoned them. They’re upset he invoked Agent Terry’s name to make a case against holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt today, while talking to Politico earlier this week.

“On Wednesday, Representative John Dingell invoked the Terry family name while saying he would not back the contempt resolutions but instead wants the Oversight and Government Reform Committee to conduct a more thorough investigation into Operation Fast and Furious,” wrote the Terry family. “Congressman Dingell represents the district in Michigan where Brian Terry was born and where his family still resides, but his views don’t represent those of the Terry family. Nor does he speak for the Terry Family. And he has never spoken to the Terry family.”

At first, Rep. Dingell was supportive of the investigation and wanted to hold those responsible accountable for their actions. But now he tells Politico they need to do more investigating instead of holding Mr. Holder in contempt.

“We don’t need contempt,” Dingell told POLITICO. “What we need is an honest thorough investigation so we know the facts and we need to see that these kind of things don’t happen again.”

Rep Dingell conveniently forgets that it is impossible to do a thorough investigation without the proper evidence. Until Mr. Holder hands over the documents the investigation is at a standstill. Rep. Dingell should tell Mr. Holder to stop stonewalling.

That’s exactly what the Terry family wants out of their congressman.

“The Terry family has been waiting for over 18 months for answers about Operation Fast and Furious and how it was related to Brian’s death,” said the family. “If Rep. Dingell truly wants to support the Terry family and honor Brian Terry, a son of Michigan, he and other Congressmen will call for the Attorney General to immediately provide the documents requested by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.”
