Will & Grace star Eric McCormack is joining with other celebrities in singing for gun control on the upcoming, GUNS: The Album.
In addition to McCormack, People reports that the album also features contributions from “Frances Fisher (Titanic), Mykal Kilgore (The Wiz), Jonathan Lipnicki (Stuart Little), Jack Laufer (Madmen), Ivan Hernandez (Devious Maids), and Joanna Jones (Hairspray Live!).”
McCormack’s voice will be heard in the song, “Welcome to the Gun Show.”
McCormack commented on his song, saying, “I was thrilled to contribute, in my small way, to this project. Musically, it is brilliant and soaring and ambitious as hell. Culturally, it is downright crucial.”
The album is the creation of Braxton Molinaro and Jonathan Sokolow, who plan for the album to be filled with songs covering the “vast and ever-evolving” terms of the gun control debate.
People reports that some of the songs focus on “the practicality in controlling the amount of firearms in the country,” while others look at “the easy process in which one can acquire a gun (‘American Gun’), the traditional use of guns in hunting (‘Thrill of the Hunt’) and the mass shooting epidemic from a survivor’s perspective (‘On Columbine’).”
People did not report whether the album will also contain songs with titles like “Gun-Free Zones Are Killing Fields” or “Law-Abiding Citizens Are Sitting Ducks on Gun-Free Campuses.” There was also no mention of whether the album will contain a song about Nicholas Roland, a survivor of the April 16, 2007, attack in a Virginia Tech gun-free zone. Thirty-two unarmed innocents were killed when an attacker opened fire, and The College Fix quoted Roland saying that the “worst situation is to have no defense back.” He expressed support for the police, but said they “were not fast enough.”
His point is that police show up after a crime is committed. They are rarely there when it occurs.
Maybe the album could include a song about Roland titled, “Good Guys Need Guns to Stop Bad Guys with Guns.”
As it now stands, the album co-creator Jonathan Sokolow says, “This album is not meant to be pro or anti-gun, but to promote gun control and education about this issue.”
Note to Sokolow–if it promotes gun control it is anti-gun.
