On Friday afternoon, an employee at a Dayton, Ohio, salon pulled a gun from beside the cash register and told a robbery suspect he would not be getting any money.
The incident was one of three attempted robberies that occurred within a 15-minute time frame Friday afternoon.
According to WCMH TV, the suspect entered Sundeck Tanning Salon and “bought a ring with a handful of change.” He then allegedly continued standing in front of the cash register and told the cashier, “I don’t want any trouble, just give me all the money.”
At the point the cashier — who happens to be the store owner’s girlfriend — grabbed a gun they kept by the register, pointed it at the suspect and said, “I don’t think you’re going to get that money today,” the suspect turned and fled.
Police believe the suspect robbed a “Dairy Queen on Smithville Road 10 minutes before” going to the salon. And they believe he also robbed a “Subway on Wilmington Avenue after leaving [the salon].” Dayton Police Lt. Joe Wiesman believes he is also tied to two earlier robberies, “[One] at a Circle K back on April 5th as well as Rich’s Smoke Shop.”
51-year-old James Odum Jr. was reportedly taken into custody after his son identified him to police.
The salon owner said his girlfriend was a bit shaken up by the encounter with the robbery suspect, but said he knew she was not going to hand over the money for which they worked. The owner said, “We’re a small family business. This is what we live off of and she’s not going to give that up.”
