Tech entrepreneur and Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang promised at the Democrat debate in Detroit on Wednesday that if he is elected president, he will fulfill his promise to give every American $1,000 a month.
“This is a deeply American idea from Thomas Paine to Martin Luther King Jr. to today,” Andrew Yang said, adding that automation has taken away “millions of jobs and yours could be next.”
“The opposite of Trump is an Asian man who likes math,” Yang said. “So let me share the math.”
“A thousand a month would mean $461 million a month right here in Detroit alone,” Yang said.
Yang did not say how he would pay for his plan to guarantee $1,000 a month to every American.
Yang, so far, has not qualified for the next debate set for September in Texas.
