A junior college football player was arrested Saturday after he allegedly punched a referee in the head.
Walnut. CA’s Mt. San Antonio College offensive lineman Bernard Schirmer was in the middle of a mouthing match with a Ventura College player when the referee stepped in to diffuse the situation.
After being pushed back, Schirmer can be seen punching the official in the head, knocking him to the ground.
Schirmer was ejected and arrested on suspicion for battery.
According to California Community College Athletic Association bylaws, striking an official is punishable by a five-year ban.
