Paul: Trump ‘Doesn’t Have a Lot of Respect for the Constitution or First Amendment’

Wednesday on Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” while discussing Donald Trump’s plan to shut down parts of the internet and go after terrorists’ families, Republican presidential candidate Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said Trump “doesn’t have a lot of respect for the Constitution or First Amendment.”

Paul said, “I think my point came across pretty well because the point I made about Donald Trump is, if you’re going to close the internet, that is something like they do in North Korea, that is something like they do in China, but also goes against the Constitution, it goes against the First Amendment. People might think it is humorous at first that Donald Trump is strong and closing the internet down from terrorists, but closing internet would require a change to the Constitution where we get rid of the First Amendment. That is a big step. People who think Donald Trump is fit for president, ought to consider he doesn’t have a lot of respect for the Constitution or First Amendment.”

He added, “You know, we’ll see. The polls are very fluid. You know, Ben Carson, who I like a lot, has dropped 20 points in the polls last couple weeks. Same thing could happen to Trump. When people wake up, he is talking about killing women and children, the families of terrorists. Well I want to do everything against terrorists. I don’t think many Americans really want to kill 2-year-old children or 4-year-old children. I think people have to think through what his proposals are. I think polls are fluid enough that Donald Trump could drop right out and there could be new leaders within the next few weeks.”
