McConnell to Boehner: ‘Thank You, My Friend’

On the heels of House Speaker John Boehner’s resignation announcement on Friday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) took to the floor of the U.S. Senate to praise his House counterpart.

“He took over as Republican leader at a very difficult time for his party,” McConnell said. “When some said Republicans could never recover, he never gave up. When some gave in to defeatism, he kept up the fight.”

In closing, he thanked Boehner.

“Thank you, my friend,” he added.
