RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas — A three-year-old boy and his father are the latest victims of cartel-linked drug violence in Texas after a team of gunmen shot at them multiple times before making a clean getaway.
The murder took place on Sunday evening when Starr County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the intersection of Woods Brothers Road and Segunada Road, information provided to Breitbart Texas by authorities revealed.
At the scene, authorities found the body of 41-year-old Hector “El Calzon or Bibi” Garcia Jr., nearby, authorities also found his three-year-old son Julian who had been struck by gunfire. Emergency medical personnel rushed the boy to a local hospital where he died shortly after.
According to preliminary information provided to Breitbart Texas by the Starr County Sheriff’s Office, the double homicide was carried out by a team of gunmen who had been riding in a four door, Ford F-250 truck.
While the sheriff’s office has not released a motive, local law enforcement sources revealed to Breitbart Texas that the murder is linked to drug trafficking in Starr County.
As Breitbart Texas has reported in the past, Starr County is immediately north of the border cities of Camargo and Miguel Aleman; long considered a bustling corridor for Mexico’s Gulf Cartel. The lack of physical barriers and diminished border enforcement presence in the area continues to make the region an attractive crossing point for drug and human smuggling.
