Obama Honors Texas Student’s Film Calling for World With ‘No Guns’

A Texas high school student has been invited to the White House by President Obama for his film that highlights a man who says “I want to live in a world where there are no guns” and where he does not “have to worry about getting picked on by the police.”

The film, which is less than three minutes long, is entitled “The World I Want to Live In.”

The short film is being featured at the White House 2016 Student Film Festival presented by South by Southwest, reported the local ABC affiliate in Albany, New York.

The Austin, Texas high school student, Quinn Holmes, is scheduled to meet with President Barack Obama on Monday.

His film features Frank, a 52-year-old black man from lower Manhattan who describes the “world I want to live in.”

Frank says, “I want to live in a world where there are no guns.”

He also says his vision of the world is one “where you can walk down the street, any given time and any borough, and don’t have to worry about getting picked on by the police.”

His message is for “the future generation of this world.”

The film, played against a backdrop of Debussy’s Suite Bergamasque No. 3, includes Frank’s urging that there can only be peace in this world if people do not discriminate against others and “don’t hate people because they are different than you.”

The New Yorker says he wants to live in a world “where you can walk by a building, and ain’t got to worry about the part of the building falling down and hitting you in the head and killing you.”

Frank urges students to “be strong, stay in school, get all the education you can get … Learn to respect one another, no matter what race, what religion, or by what name we call God. We can eliminate racism as long as we respect one another, and don’t discriminate against each other.”

“Because you are the future, and without you, there will be no future,” he ends.
