Searches for sex robots and virtual reality porn went up exponentially in 2017 on two popular porn websites: xHamster and PornHub.

According to xHamster, searches for virtual reality porn jumped by 47 percent in 2017, while searches for “robotic ‘sex dolls’ grew even more dramatically, nearly doubling at 97%.”

“VR production and consumption still has its challenges, but the audience is growing at a rapid clip. We saw a 47.4% jump in searches for VR over the past year, and we expect that audience demand in 2018 will drive innovation to make the videos better and more accessible. We’ve even launched a platform to make it happen,” declared xHamster in a 2017 recap blog post. “We’ve also seen interest in sex dolls nearly double in the past year, with a 97.4% jump in search frequency. We introduced the crowd-designed xHamsterina this past summer, and intend to push more heavily into this field in the new year.”

Consumer interest in tech is further demonstrated with a report this week claiming that xHamster seeks to audition sex robots for future productions.

On PornHub, VR was the 16th most searched category in 2017, up by 14 places from 2016, while the site’s top trending search terms of the year included “Twitch streamers,” “Rick and Morty,” “HD sex,” “fidget spinner,” and “1080p.”

The growing popularity of searches for “HD sex” and “1080p” show an increased consumer interest in the quality of videos, with consumers less likely to put up with low-quality video in an era of HD content.

In Russia, searches for porn related to the popular video game Overwatch were the second most popular, and searches related to the video game Minecraft went up by 119 percent.

Minecraft searches were also popular for men in general, with PornHub listing “Minecraft” as the fourth most popular trending search of 2017 for men.

“We see a move away from extreme content, and a greater demand for more traditional porn content,” reported xHamster. “This is driven by an increasingly female audience, as well as more conservative regions come online, with less specific demands as to content.”

South Korea, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and India had the biggest growth in porn users by country.

Both xHamster and PornHub claimed “porn for women” shot up, with women preferring categories such as “mom,” “massage,” Arab,” “daddy,” “pregnant,” and “stepmom.”

The cuckold trend on xHamster grew by 23 percent, while on PornHub, cuckold video views went up by 72 percent.
