The Pokémon Go mobile game is on the verge of surpassing Twitter in daily active users on Android devices.
The game, based on the Japanese media franchise Pokémon, allows users to catch Pokémon using real world locations, and has proved an enormous success since its launch last week. 5.6% of US Android users having already downloaded the app, already more than the dating app Tinder.
The latest data indicates the game is set to overtake Twitter on Android phones in its number of daily users, with Twitter currently poised at 3.5% and Pokémon Go rapidly increasing.
Furthermore, the app has not even begun its global expansion plans, as it is currently only available in the US, Australia, and New Zealand.
Since its launch, the Missouri Police Department has even had to release a statement urging users to take caution when playing the game, as armed robbers attempted to target people through the app.
“It is believed these suspects targeted their victims through the Pokemon Go smartphone application,” the statement read.
