Former President Donald Trump’s campaign is lighting up President Joe Biden for only accepting an invitation to give the commencement address at Atlanta’s Morehouse College because it’s in the same neighborhood Trump visited when he made an iconic stop at a Chick-fil-A recently.
President Joe Biden told an audience of black students on the grounds of Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University on Tuesday that he was arrested during the civil rights struggle, though there is no evidence that such an arrest ever happened.
Historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) in Atlanta, Georgia, announced this week that they will keep their courses online for the fall semester. The decision was made in response to a recent surge in coronavirus cases in the state.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and his wife Patty Quillin announced on Wednesday that they are donating $120 million to the United Negro College Fund and two historically black colleges in response to the death of George Floyd. According to Hastings, “We wanted to do our part to draw attention, in this case, to the HBCU’s 150 years of resilience, of educating young Black people and the stories not well understood in the white community.”
Fox Business noted this week that capitalism made it possible for billionaire Robert F. Smith to pay off the student loans of Morehouse College Class of 2019, a $40 million donation that he announced during a commencement address at the college on Sunday.
