Queen sues dating site for using her photo

BARCELONA, Spain, Oct. 28 (UPI) — The queen of Spain is suing an online dating site that used her photograph in an advertisement without her permission.

Queen Sofia is suing the Ashley Madison website for "damage to her honor and dignity," ThinkSpain reported.

Ashley Madison used a picture of the queen with slogan, "Now you no longer have to spend the night alone" in one of its advertisements.

The advertising regulatory board, Autocontrol, agrees with the queen that the advertisement should never have been launched and should be removed.

The Ashley Madison dating service is marketing mainly to people who are already in relationships.

Restaurant worker foils robbery with soup

BRAIDWOOD, Ill., Oct. 28 (UPI) — An employee at an Illinois Subway restaurant stopped a robbery by throwing a pot of soup at an armed robber wearing a ghost mask, police said.

The attempted robbery happened at 6:45 p.m. Friday when an employee was leaving the restaurant and was forced back inside by the masked bandit, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

"He pushed her down to the floor and kept yelling to open the register," said Braidwood Police Chief Rich Girot. "A male employee threw a pot of soup at the suspect and they scuffled until [the robber] ran out to a black compact car."

Neither of the employees was injured, but the woman was "shaken up" and taken to a hospital for examination, Girot said.

Girot said police were reviewing footage from security cameras.

Man gets Romney logo tattooed on face

INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 28 (UPI) — A 30-year-old Indiana man says an eBay user paid him $15,000 to have the Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s campaign logo tattooed on his head.

Eric Hartsburg posted an eBay listing in August offering the side of his head as permanent ad space for whatever the winning bidder chose, ABC News reported.

The winning bidder — a Republican eBay user who preferred to remain anonymous — paid $15, 000 to have Hartsburg tattoo Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign "R" logo on his face. Hartsburg got the tattoo Tuesday.

Hartsburg said the eBay listing started as a joke.

“In the beginning it was done for gags and publicity, but now I see it as a way to encourage young people to vote.

"We have so many rights that we don’t utilize and young people need to exercise that right," he said.

Hartsburg is auctioning off his forehead space now, with a minimum bid of $5,000. His only requirement for bidders is that it their ads not be racist or otherwise offensive.

British man bills telemarketers for time

SURREY, England, Oct. 27 (UPI) — A British court ruled in favor of a businessman who decided to bill cold-calling telephone marketers for his time.

A telemarketing firm agreed to pony up 195 pounds ($314.57) Richard Herman said he was owed for the time he spent fielding calls from their sales reps.

"I was feeling oppressed that I was getting called by these companies," Herman told The Daily Telegraph. "Once I sent the company the invoice, I felt as though the boot was on the other foot. I wasn’t the victim anymore."

Herman said cold calls had been consuming an increasing part of his time. The majority urged him to retain the services of companies that claimed they could recover refunds from the Payment Protection Insurance compensation fund.

The last straw came when Herman was trying to enjoy a quiet afternoon in his Surrey garden but couldn’t because his mobile phone kept ringing.

"We’re all busy rushing around all day long, so when we snatch 4 minutes by ourselves for a bit of peace and quiet, the last thing you want is to be intruded upon by these irrelevant companies," he said.
