Jerry Richardson, the only NFL owner to play in the league, donated $100,000 to cover the funeral costs of the nine victims of racist gunman Dylann Roof in the Charleston mass murders.

The Carolina Panthers owner requested that $10,000 go to each family for funeral expenses and the remaining $10,000 fund a memorial for the Charleston murder victims at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. The bequest went to the Mother Emanuel Hope Fund.

Richardson sent the check Friday but did not publicize the gift.

Richardson’s star player Cam Newton followed his boss’ generosity by visiting several family members affected by loss and paying respects at several services for the departed.
