Watch: Trump Envoy David Friedman Searches for Honey Ahead of Rosh Hashanah

JERUSALEM – Ahead of Rosh Hashanah, President Donald Trump’s envoy to Israel David Friedman released a YouTube clip wishing Jews around the world a happy new year.

In the clip, Ambassador Friedman is seen searching for a precious jar of honey which, he says, got lost in when he moved the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

He calls his wife, Tammy, who is in Jerusalem’s main marketplace, Shuk Mahane Yehuda. Tammy reassures him that together they will find more honey at the market. Friedman leaves his office in the embassy’s new location in south Jerusalem, caressing the dedication plaque on his way out.

“It never gets old,” Friedman says as he touches it.

He takes off his jacket and tie, dons a yarmulke and arrives at the shuk where stall owners and passersby shake his hand and praise him and Trump.

“On behalf of the president of the United States, we’d like to wish the people of Israel and Jews everywhere shana tova umetuka, a happy, healthy, successful and peaceful new year,” the ambassador says, dipping a piece of apple into honey as per the tradition.

He then recites the blessing for fruit before taking a bite of the apple.
