Gillibrand: Trump’s ‘Darkness’ Has Caused ‘Increase in Hate Crimes’

Monday during a living room town hall hosted by Progress Iowa and streamed by Now This News, 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) said President Donald Trump’s “hate and division” had “given permission” for people to thrive in hate which caused an “increase in hate crimes.”

Gillibrand said, “I think Donald Trump has been tearing apart the moral fabric of this country. I think he is dividing us on every racial line, every religious line, every socioeconomic line he can find. He has spewed hate and division in his words and in his actions. And he has given permission for people to just thrive in that hate. We have seen an increase in hate crimes in anti-Semitism, in racism, homophobia, anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant, anti-refugee.”

She added, “He has literally separate moms and babies at the border because he is demonizing people who are seeking our assistance, asylum. He has created so much darkness.”
