Willie Brown: CA Gov. Jerry Brown Should Run for SF Mayor

Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown thinks California Governor Jerry Brown should run to be San Francisco’s next mayor.

In his San Francisco Chronicle column this weekend, Brown argues that Jerry Brown might be the “only politician alive capable” of running San Francisco.

“I don’t think Jerry Brown is ever going to call it a career. He mentioned that he still has $20 million in his campaign account, even though he’s termed out as governor after next year,” Willie Brown wrote. “Personally, I think he should consider running for San Francisco mayor in 2019. He was a great mayor of Oakland, and he might be the only politician alive capable of running this city.”

As The Hill recently noted, Jerry Brown “is the longest serving governor of California, holding office from 1975 to 1983 and then again from 2011 to present.” Earlier in the year, Jerry Brown left open another potential presidential run. He mentioned at a press conference that he will be 82 years of age in 2020 before saying, “don’t rule it out.”

Brown has lately been busy battling President Donald Trump on climate change.

The California governor recently told a meeting of climate change activists in Germany that Trump didn’t “speak for the rest of America” when he pulled out of the Paris Climate Accord.
