Kroger Will No Longer Sell Magazines that Feature ‘Assault Rifles’

Kroger announced Monday it will no longer carry magazines and periodicals that feature “assault rifles.”

This means publications such as Recoil, Guns & Ammo, and Tactical Life could soon be banned from the chain.

USA Today reports that Kroger posited the move as part of a “new policy” being put in place in the wake of the February 14 Parkland, Florida, school shooting.

On March 1, Breitbart News reported that Kroger joined Walmart and Dick’s Sporting Goods in banning firearm and ammunition sales to anyone under the age of 21.

Breitbart News reported on March 10 that Kroger was sued by 20-year-old Airion Grace, who claimed that Kroger subsidiary Fred Meyer violated Oregon law and committed “unlawful age discrimination” by refusing to sell him a box of shotgun shells.

Fred Meyer announced on March 18 it would cease selling guns and ammunition altogether.

Kroger was one of the first major businesses to buck the trend of caving to gun control shame campaigns in 2014 and 2015. When Michael Bloomberg-funded Moms Demand Action pressured the chain to bar customers from openly carrying firearms for self-defense, the chain rejected the push. The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Kroger released a statement indicating it had no intention of changing its policy: “We trust [customers] to be responsible in our stores.”

There is no word on whether Kroger’s stance on open carry will change as other aspects of its gun policy have.
