Poll: Flake/Graham/Durbin Expansive Amnesty Is Outside the Mainstream

Despite Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) best efforts to persuade the mainstream media that his expansive amnesty — also authored by Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) — plan for millions of illegal aliens is popular, a new poll says otherwise.

In new polling by Harvard-Harris, the overwhelming majority of Americans see the Flake-Graham-Durbin amnesty as being outside the mainstream of national immigration policy. The Flake-Graham-Durbin amnesty would reward at least eight million illegal aliens with a pathway to U.S. citizenship and amnesty for their illegal alien parents without reducing legal immigration levels to benefit America’s working and middle class.

Trump’s pro-American immigration agenda would give amnesty to only the nearly 800,000 illegal aliens enrolled in the President Obama-created Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in exchange for reducing legal immigration levels and receiving full funding for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The poll found that only 35 percent of Americans oppose Trump’s immigration deal that would end the process of “chain migration,” which allows newly naturalized citizens to bring an unlimited number of foreign relatives to the U.S., as well as eliminating the Diversity Visa Lottery program, which imports 50,000 random foreign nationals every year, and obtaining full funding for a U.S.-Mexico border wall, all in exchange for allowing DACA illegal aliens to remain in the country.

On the other hand, 65 percent of Americans said they support Trump’s immigration deal, including:

  • 68 percent of Hispanic voters who support Trump’s immigration deal
  • 64 percent of black Americans
  • 64 percent of Democrat voters
  • 67 percent of swing-voters
  • 63 percent of left-wing voters
  • 68 percent of voters who previously voted for Hillary Clinton for president

Graham, though, has failed in claiming that Trump’s immigration deal is extreme and that its main curator, White House senior adviser Stephen Miller, is an “outlier.” The poll, in actuality, shows that the Flake-Graham-Durbin view on immigration of expansive and open-ended amnesty for illegal aliens is out of step with the American people.

The White House estimates that the unpopular Flake-Graham-Durbin amnesty would not only not end newly naturalized citizens being allowed to bring over their foreign relatives to the U.S., but it would actually expand their abilities to do so.

Additionally, such an amnesty would massively increase illegal immigration to the U.S., as it does not include any reforms to prevent a surge along the U.S.-Mexico border or a crackdown on illegal aliens who overstay their visas.

The Flake-Graham-Durbin plan, at the end of the day, would likely be an amnesty for over ten million foreign nationals, illegal aliens, and their foreign relatives.
