Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) has refused to condemn the radical left-wing street organization Antifa, claiming he doesn’t know enough about the group to pass judgment.

“I don’t like broad brushes and I don’t know enough about them to say that they’re terrorists but people who do violent things,” Kaine told the Daily Caller in a statement. “The law should take care of them.”

Kaine’s comments follow widespread condemnation of the group, with the Department of Homeland Security recently classifying their activities as “domestic terrorist violence,”

Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has also denounced the group, offering “unequivocal condemnation” of their violent activities.

“Our democracy has no room for inciting violence or endangering the public, no matter the ideology of those who commit such acts,” Pelosi said in a statement.  “The violent actions of people calling themselves Antifa in Berkeley this weekend deserve unequivocal condemnation, and the perpetrators should be arrested and prosecuted.”

Following President Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, Kaine also suggested that Democrats should “fight in the streets” against the administration, as well as in Congress and through the courts.

In May, Kaine’s son Linwood appeared to do just that, after he allegedly joined an anti-Trump riot attacking Trump’s supporters during a protest Minnesota. He has since been charged with “fleeing police on foot, concealing his identity in a public place, and obstructing legal process.”
