Man Breaks Into Ex-Girlfriend’s Home, Is Shot Several Times By Her Father

A man who broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home was shot several times by her elderly father who shares the home with her.

The incident occurred early Thursday morning in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

According to KRQE, 40-year-old Lee Brandenburg “was armed and [attempted] to gain entry into the home of his ex-girlfriend and her 76-year-old father by breaking the front window to the living room.”

Albuquerque police said “the 76-year-old shot Brandenburg several times out of fear for him and his daughter’s safety.” Police also said “Brandenburg had a history of making threats to his ex-girlfriend,” which is what motivated her to move into the home with her father to begin with.

KOB 4 reports:

Brandenburg was arrested on a battery against a household member charge on April 16 after he allegedly punched the woman, who was his girlfriend at the time, in the head during an argument. Brandenburg never showed up to court for that case, so a warrant for his arrest was issued in May.

Brandenburg will be charged with “aggravated battery” upon his release from the hospital. Police said the 76-year-old father will face no charges.
