President Obama is playing to his Democrat supporters by mocking the Republican presidential candidates who are running to replace him.
During his speech at a Democratic fundraisers in New York City, Obama noted that the Republican candidates are talking tough about Vladimir Putin.
“They say, when I talk to Putin, he’s going to straighten out … and then it turns out they can’t handle a bunch of CNBC moderators,” Obama said.
He suggested that the attitude expressed by the candidates towards the moderators was a sign that they are not ready to lead the United States.
“If you can’t handle those guys, I don’t think the Chinese and the Russians are going to be too worried about you,” he said.
He told the audience why he wasn’t going to run for a third term – even though many Democrats would want it.
“I explain A: It’s unconstitutional. George Washington set a good example. B: Michelle would not permit it. And C: this has never been about me … I did not say ‘yes I can.’ I said ‘yes we can.’”
The DNC fundraiser was held at the Richard Rogers theater, and tickets to the events included a performance of the Broadway show Hamilton. Obama walked out to deliver his speech after the show.
“I am annoyed that I did not get to see this show again. Michelle and I love this show,” he said. “It also happens to be the only thing Dick Cheney and I agree on … that is a cultural landmark.”
