Report: Obama ISIS War Czar Stepping Down

President Obama’s “war czar,” retired General John Allen, is reportedly stepping down according to a breaking report from Josh Rogin and Eli Lake.

The retired general was named the Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS, by President Obama in September 2014.

Allen is the public face of the administration’s effort to defend Obama’s loose strategy, recently conducting a series of interviews to promote the coalition’s efforts against ISIS after a full year of engagement.

Although Allen appeared optimistic about the effort, he admitted that the struggle against ISIS would be lengthy and drawn out.

“We think it could be years. There will be aspects of it that will go even beyond that,” he said in a recent interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper.

He also admitted that the $500 million effort to train Syrian rebels was off to a bad start, after the handful of trained rebels had either fled or quit.

Last week, the U.S. Central Command Commander Gen. Lloyd Austin admitted during a congressional hearing that only “four or five” fighters remained of the first class of 54 soldiers.

“We do acknowledge that that was a setback, but we remain committed to the principles of that program,” Allen said, during the interview with CNN.

According to Business Insider, the chief of staff of the US-trained Syrian rebel group Division 30 also recently resigned from his position, citing the “the lack of seriousness” in the program.
