After a lengthy conversation with the business leaders about the economy, President Obama tweeted support for a high school student arrested in Irving, Texas after he brought a homemade clock to school.
The student, Ahmen Mohamed, was called to the principal’s office after a teacher reported it. Police arrested him, put him in handcuffs, and took his fingerprints.
“Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House?” Obama asked. “We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great.”
The school suspended Mohamed for three days. Irving Police Chief Larry Boyd defended the decision to arrest Mohamed on the grounds that it was “a hoax bomb” but said that it was a “naive accident.”
“We are confident it’s not an explosive device,” he said according to the Dallas Morning News, confirming that all charges were dropped.
