Bill Clinton Was In Talks To Give A Paid Speech To Iranian Group

Former President Bill Clinton was in talks to give a paid speech at a fundraiser for an Iranian group closely tied to the Iranian regime, and his people ran the idea by Hillary Clinton’s State Department staffers.

Clinton Foundation official Amitabh Desai emailed Hillary Clinton State Department staffers including Cheryl Mills and Jacob Sullivan on June 4, 2012, according to an email provided to Breitbart News by Citizens United, which obtained the email in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.

“Would USG have any concerns about WJC doing a paid speech for National Iranian American Council (“NIAC”)?,” Desai asked.

“We have been approached by the National Iranian American Council (“NIAC”) for President Clinton to speak at a fundraising gala they are putting on,” Desai continued. “Background on the organization and the event they sent along. Would welcome your reactions. Thanks, Ami.”

The National Iranian American Council, a Washington-based advocacy group, has long been the subject of speculation about its closeness to Tehran. House Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Rep. Ed Royce accused a NIAC intern in 2013 of speaking “propaganda put out by the Iranian regime” at a press conference.

Hillary Clinton supports President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran, which lifts sanctions on the Islamic country and allows Iran to continue its nuclear program with some inspections.
