In advance of his trip to Kenya, President Obama told the BBC that he was determined to get something done on gun control, expressing frustration that he was unable to get movement on an issue he supported.
“The one area where I feel that I’ve been most frustrated and most stymied – it is that the fact that the United States of America is the one advanced nation on earth in which we do not have sufficient common-sense gun safety laws – even in the face of repeated mass killings,” Obama said in the interview.
Obama says that since 9/11, more Americans have been killed by gun violence than terrorism. He insists there were “less than 100” killed by terrorists and added that those killed by gun violence since 9/11 were in the “tens of thousands.”
Obama vowed action on gun control in his remaining months in office, saying he’s determined to get something done.
“For us not to be able to resolve that issue has been something that is distressing but it is not something that I intend to stop working on in the remaining 18 months,” he said.
