Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) attacked Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas on Wednesday over Thomas’ vote in favor of striking Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act, stating that Thomas’ offense against the country was worse than NSA leaker Edward Snowden’s. “Comparing it to Snowden,” said Johnson, “I’d say the offense is worse.” Thomas, said Johnson, was “legally aware of the consequences” to blacks of his vote, as opposed to Snowden, who was “mistaken” about the legality of the NSA’s actions. Thomas, Johnson added, “consciously repeats those same steps over and over again to the detriment of the African-American community.”
Johnson said that members of the Congressional Black Caucus, of which he is a member, “don’t waste time sitting around talking about Clarence Thomas. Everyone knows it’s a deep tragedy.”
