Chris Christie Would Consider Requests to Help Immigrant Children in NJ

When asked his opinion of the ongoing crisis involving illegal immigrant children, NJ Governor and potential 2016 GOP presidential contender Chris Christie said, “I have great empathy for that situation. We’ll take every request that comes based on its merits and make those decisions.”

He also called Americans “an empathetic people.” Christie remarks came while he was in Iowa for a Republican Governor’s Association event.

But he said “encouraging this would be the wrong step to take,” alluding to families sending their children to New Jersey, which has among the nation’s 10 largest Hispanic populations.

Christie blamed the Obama administration for the failure of the federal government to resolve the crisis involving tens of thousands of unaccompanied children at the U.S.-Mexico border.
