An Australian man is on trial accused of killing a drinking buddy after discovering he had finished up his last four cans of beer. According to prosecutors, Gary Stewart Miles ordered 47-year-old Paul John Stamp to stay away from his remaining beer but when Stamp ignored the order, Miles and a friend, Gregory Channing, beat him and stuffed him into the trunk of a car.
Prosecutors say they then drove to an industrial area where they planned to dump their injured friend, leaving him to find his way home. However, they reportedly ran out of gas. After obtaining a jerry can of fuel, prosecutors say Miles decided to douse the car and ignite it, burning his friend alive who remained trapped in the trunk.
In court, Miles denied the charges, but Channing, who is in jail for assaulting the victim, previously testified against Miles by saying he heard him say: “I’m going to kill that c—.”
The trial is ongoing.
