HOUSTON, Texas — The Ferguson protest has reached at least three Texas Cities: Houston, Austin and Dallas.
The protests originated in Ferguson, Missouri after a police officer shot and killed an 18-year-old in apparent self-defense. The Ferguson protests heated up after a grand jury declined to indict the officer.
The protests have taken a violent turn in Ferguson, though they have remained peaceful up to the time this article was published.
Shortly before 6 p.m. protesters convened inMcGregor Park, located near the historic Third Ward of Houston and theUniversity of Houston. Houston police on horsebackgathered to monitor activities, and were unable to stop the protesters fromblocking traffic in several major intersections in the area.
In Austin, Police Chief Art Acevedo tweeted that 500-600 protesters gatheredat the Austin Police Department Headquarters.
In Dallas, a little over one hundred protesters gathered accordingto the Dallas Morning News. Carryingsigns saying “Stop killing our sons” and “Show us the Video” the one hundredplus protesters stood outside the Dallas Police Department.
