Sid Miller Plants Solid Win to Become Texas Ag Commissioner

AUSTIN, Texas — Former Texas State Representative Sid Miller will become the next Texas Agriculture Commissioner after a solid victory over his Democrat opponent Jim Hogan. Miller won a decisive victory by garnering nearly 60 percent of the vote. His opponent only received about 37 percent of the vote.

Miller will replace outgoing Commissioner Todd Staples who decided not to run for re-election in order to pursue a run for Lt. Governor in the Republican Primary. Miller is a life-long rancher and was perceived by many to be a natural fit for the Ag Commission seat in the Texas executive branch of state government.

“I am ready to go to work tomorrow for the people of Texas,” Commissioner-Elect Miller said in an exclusive backstage interview with Breitbart Texas. “Water is a critical priority for agriculture and for Texas.” Miller said agriculture uses about 60 percent of the water in Texas. He said he met with Lt. Governor-Elect Dan Patrick earlier today to discuss Agricultural needs in Texas.

He said he will continue the work of his predecessor, Commissioner Todd Staples on keeping border security and illegal immigration on the front burner of Texas issues.

Miller campaigned on issues related to the urgent need to address Texas’ swindling water resources, stopping illegal immigration by tightening border security and reducing government spending according to his campaign website.

He previously served the people of Texas as a State Representative and as Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security and Public Safety. “Protecting our border is vital to the safety of our state and nation,” Miller wrote on his website. “Where the federal government won’t act, we must defend our own land and economy. Americans work hard to provide for their families — They shouldn’t fit the bill for illegal immigrants who don’t pay their share of taxes.”
