Illegal Immigrant Gets 20 Years for Child Porn

HOUSTON, Texas–37-year-old Carmen Hernandez, an illegal alien living in the greater Houston area, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for distributing child pornography. Subsequent to serving his time, Hernandez will spend the rest of his life on supervised release and register as a sex offender.

Hernandez pled guilty to the charges against him on March 31, according to a press release from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The illegal immigrant was apparently a “savvy computer user” and distributed child pornography utilizing peer-to-peer software. He relied on the wifi connection of his unsuspecting neighbor–a family–to conduct his illegal activities. Police initially served the family with a search warrant because they tracked Hernandez’s computer to their home.

The family had no knowledge that Hernandez was distributing porn using their Internet service provider, according to the FBI.

Ultimately, investigators recovered countless video and images depicting child pornography on Hernandez’s computer. “These images included those involving bondage and children under 12 being penetrated by adults and foreign objects,” the FBI reported.

Michelle Lee, an FBI spokeswoman, told Breitbart Texas that the sexual exploitation of children is “exponentially increasing.” She said that technology and social media sites have made it increasingly easy for predators to force children into pornography and prostitution.

Lee said, “We tell parents of child pornography victims: this idealistic notion that you can give a child [total] independence and trust them just isn’t realistic in today’s world. … Children don’t have the judgement skills to determine what is a dangerous situation and what is not.”

The FBI reported that Hernandez is “expected to face deportation proceedings following his release from prison.” However, doubt has been cast on the federal government’s diligence in deporting convicted criminals. As Breitbart Texas previously reported, more than 36,000 convicted criminal illegal immigrants were released onto U.S. soil in 2013 alone. These convictions include 426 sexual assaults, 303 kidnappings, 193 homicides, 1,317 domestic violence assaults, and 1,724 weapon offenses.
