On Friday, MSNBC’s “All In” host Chris Hayes reported that he initially did not air a popular video showing a woman being catcalled while walking around New York City because of concerns over the racial makeup of the men in the video.
“There’s also been a very interesting and important critique of the racial politics of the video, something I noticed right away and actually that was the reason we didn’t show it on the show the first time around because it shows a white woman walking around New York city being approached mostly by men of color who are featured most prominently in the video” he said.
He then read a statement from the video’s director, saying “we got a fair amount of white guys, but for whatever reason, a lot of what they said was in passing, or off camera” or was unclear due to external noise, and adding the final video “is not a perfect representation of everything that happened.” And that they “regret the unintended racial bias in the editing of the video that over represents men of color.”
