Buchanan Touts Romney 2016 as 'Sort of Nixon' in MSNBC Return

On Monday’s “Morning Joe,” conservative commentator Pat Buchanan made his first return to MSNBC since being fired from the network in February 2012.

In that appearance, he touted his new book “The Greatest Comeback: How Richard Nixon Rose from Defeat to Create the New Majority,” and tied it to the resurgence of 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney as a potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate, which would be the third time the former Massachusetts governor has sought the nation’s high office should he attempt a run.

“I think the establishment of the Republican Party is seeing that Chris Christie may not be able to do it and that Jeb Bush does not look like he’s in fit running condition,” Buchanan said. “And I think they’re looking to Romney because they’re looking for a candidate they think can move outside the red state base and win blue states possibly. The polls are showing Romney running ten points or so ahead of Obama. But he’s running behind — he’s running behind Hillary [Clinton]. My view, though, is that Romney is sort of the Nixon in the sense that he’s a candidate who’s lost two times or three times, whatever. And he’s considered a loser. However, he’s considered presidential material. And I think a lot of people are looking at him because they think that maybe he’s the only guy that can really go the distance.”
