According to two authors John Brennan was given “carte blanche to run operations in North Africa and the Middle East.” They claimed that the administration “never warned the CIA or Stevens about ongoing U.S. military operations in the country.” The authors claim that Benghazi “was retaliation by Islamist militants who had been targeted by covert U.S. military operations.”
