Paul Ryan: We Were Shocked We Lost

WISN: JANESVILLE, Wis. — Nearly a week after the election, Republican vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan sat down with WISN 12 News political reporter Kent Wainscott. When asked about election night, Ryan said he and Mitt Romney were genuinely surprised by the results. Contrary to reports, Ryan said that the GOP candidates felt they had a good chance to win, even as they headed to Boston for their election-night gathering. As they saw the states fall one-by-one, reality began to settle in, and by the time Ohio was called for President Barack Obama, they knew the race was over.

Ryan said he had no regrets in the campaign and felt it was a wonderful experience. He said that the Romneys were wonderful to his family, and he would not change a thing in the campaign.

When asked if he was a changed man, Ryan said that the campaign experience didn’t necessarily change him, but it gave him a new appreciation of what people around the country are going through.
