On May 6 it was reported that U.S. made missiles are being used by Islamist fighters in the Syrian opposition.
According to The Long War Journal, the U.S. has begun a “pilot program” to provide “small quantities of advanced weapons, including TOW missiles, to vetted, ‘moderate’ groups, and specifically the Harakat Hazm, which fights in a newly formed coalition called the Southern Front.”
However, alliances between these “moderates” and Islamists prove that providing one group with missiles ends up as the equivalent of providing missiles to both.
For example, on May 5 the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) “reported that the Islamic Front, a large coalition of mainly Islamist fighting groups, was using U.S. TOW missiles in clashes in Aleppo against the forces of President Bashar Al-Assad and Allies.”
SOHR said the Islamic Front “was joined by Al Qaeda’s Al-Nusrah Front and the ‘moderate’ forces links to the Syrian National Coalition’s Free Syrian Army.”
