Snowden Running Out of Money, Lawyer Says

MOSCOW, Nov. 12 (UPI) — Nearly all the money U.S. secrets leaker Edward Snowden had since he fled the United States in May is gone, his attorney in Russia said.

“The savings he had, he has almost entirely spent on food, rent, security and so on,” attorney Anatoly Kucherena said in an interview published Tuesday in Rossiiskaya Gazeta.

The former National Security Agency contractor now living in Russia after he was granted temporary asylum, reportedly works for a major Russian website and has received financial support and other aid from “some organizations and enterprising citizens” since he left the United States, Kucherena said.

Snowden did not reveal information about the NSA’s massive monitoring programs for money, Kucherena said.

Last week, Kucherena said Snowden had started a new job maintaining a major Russian website but did not identify the company, citing concern for Snowden’s safety, RIA Novosti reported.

Russia granted Snowden asylum for one year in August, despite demands from the United States for his extradition.
