As atheists push for chaplain positions within the military, Rep. Mike Conaway (R-TX) and others within the House of Representatives ask why the family of a solider KIA would want to be told their son or daughter is now “worm food”?
According to the Huffington Post, Conaway claimed: “I can’t imagine an atheist accompanying a notification team as they go into some family’s home to let them know the worst news of their life and this guy says, ‘You know, that’s it–your son’s just worms, I mean, worm food.'”
This topic took center stage after Rep. Rob Andrews (D-NJ) offered an amendment on June 5 that would allow “humanists or members of human culture groups to join the chaplain corps.”
Breitbart News spoke to Executive Director of Chaplain Alliance Ron Crews about these efforts; he said it’s simply not possible for an atheist to uphold the chaplain motto, “For God and country.” He added, “Nor can they uphold the tagline, ‘We bring God to soldiers and soldiers to God.'” Crews said that tagline has been around since just after WWII.
He said the only reason military chaplains “exist is to help soldiers worship God according to the dictates of their conscience.” How can an atheist do this?
To even suggest this is to make a mockery of the chaplaincy.
