Report: Iranian President Ahmadinejad Arrested by Revolutionary Guard

Reports indicate Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was arrested by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard on April 29 and “held for seven hours.”

Ahmadinejad was allegedly traveling in a convoy comprised of his security detail when he his security advisor told him Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei had an “urgent matter” to discuss with him. 

Before Ahmadinejad’s convoy could re-route itself to Khamenei’s office, three other vehicles overtook it; the Iranian President and his security detail were taken to “a secret Foreign Ministry” office where they were disarmed and their “communications equipment” was taken away.

Allegedly, Ahmadinejad was then brought before the head of the Revolutionary Guards’ intelligence branch and was interrogated over allegations that he has documents that could “prove damaging to the country’s regime.”

The arrest purportedly came just “hours” after Ahmadinejad “had threatened to release recordings proving that voters in the 2009 Iranian elections were defrauded.” 

Iran has a general election next month.
