In a letter addressed to “Members of the U.S. House of Representatives,” 24 different conservative groups are asking Representatives to support H. Res. 36, which would create a select committee to investigate the Sept. 11, 2012 Benghazi attacks.
It’s been seven months since those attacks claimed the lives of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, yet no progress has been made toward finding out what really happened on that day.
The conservative groups appeal to legislator’s constitutional role of oversight and point out that regarding the Benghazi attacks, any oversight or investigation that takes place will have to start in the House of Representatives because the Senate and the White House have demonstrated zero interest.
The letter communicates this by describing oversight to this point as “sporadic, unaggressive, and incomplete” at best. “The Democrat-controlled U.S. Senate has shown no willingness to rise above politics and ask questions, nor has the Obama administration felt an obligation to police itself.”
The group’s supporting H. Res. 36 are asking for a thorough investigation to start now so that victims’ families can know the truth before Sept. 11, 2013–the first anniversary of the attacks.
H. Res. 36 is sponsored by Frank Wolf (R-VA) and has 92 co-sponsors.
