Ever ready to fan the flames of racism, MSNBC was at it again on Monday with a guest who blamed the rioting in Ferguson, Missouri on “systemic” American “white supremacy.”
During the Monday broadcast of “The Reid Report,” The Nation magazine blogger Mychal Denzel Smith insisted that “the fact” that our nation was born of white supremacy gives the country an original sin that has never been dealt with and, perhaps, can never be cleansed.
Host Joy Reid asked her panel why we didn’t have “this conversation” about race when Trayvon Martin was killed, and Smith claimed that we’ve had the “conversation over and over again,” but we all get “amnesia” once the next incident comes up.
Smith went on to blame the founding fathers for the “white supremacy” that he claims serves as the bedrock upon which this country was built.
“The parameters of the conversation are so narrowly defined as to define racism as a personal hatred towards black people,” he said. “And we’re not then dealing with the systemic ideas that uphold racism and white supremacy in this country and then lead to the death of a Trayvon Martin, or a Michael Brown… What we refuse to deal with is the idea–the fact–that our, the foundation of this country is racism, and white supremacy, and all of our institutions uphold that.”
