Broadcast networks gave the People’s Climate March 4.5 times as much coverage as the March for Life, says Media Research Center (MRC).
In addition, MRC notes that networks portrayed the Climate March positively and ignored the radicalism promoted by participants, such as their expressions against capitalism and for socialism, as well as their calls for “revolution.” Marchers included the Communist Party USA and many Occupy groups.
NBC “Nightly News” and ABC “World News Tonight” on Sunday night, as well as CBS “This Morning” and ABC “Good Morning America” on Monday morning, gave a combined three minutes and 27 seconds to the climate march, while they gave only 46 seconds to the March for Life in January.
“World News Tonight” and “Nightly News” also discussed a recent statement from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which reported the summer of 2014 as the “warmest summer on Earth” on record as support for claims of protesters who expressed concern about global warming.
MRC observes that neither NBC nor ABC, however, pointed out that record keeping for average temperatures only dates back to 1880, a fact that indicates the report by NOAA represents only a tiny fraction of Earth’s history.
Additionally, “World News Tonight” further exaggerated the information with its claim that 2014 is on track to be the “hottest year ever.”
As Breitbart News also reported in February, CBS “This Morning” host Charlie Rose and Michio Kaku, a physics professor from New York City College, blamed global warming for last year’s harsh winter’s extreme cold temperatures.
MRC noted that the broadcast networks did not mention the irony of march participants traveling by fossil fuel guzzling cars or planes to attend the New York City march.
Occupy Wall Street supporter and fracking opponent actor Mark Ruffalo defended global warming enthusiasts Al Gore and Leonardo DiCaprio for their carbon emissions.
As Twitchy observed, when Climate Depot asked Ruffalo about Gore’s and DiCaprio’s carbon footprints, the actor responded, “Oh brother. That is a question you shouldn’t be asking here today, because that defies the spirit of what this is about.”
