Days after the RNC agreed to boycott CNN and NBC/MSNBC when it comes to hosting GOP presidential primary debates, CNN Films made a move that only serves to vindicate that boycott. As its senior director, CNN Films just announced the hiring of Courtney Sexton, the force behind a number of left-wing documentaries, including Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth”:
Sexton spent eight years at Participant Media, managing such documentaries as “An Inconvenient Truth” and “Food, Inc.” from development to release. …
“We’re thrilled to have a film executive with Courtney’s experience and talent join CNN Films,” said Vinnie Malhotra, senior vice president of development and acquisitions for CNN Worldwide, to whom she will report. “Her extensive background in story crafting, and her ability to build strong relationships with filmmakers, will be a major asset to us as we take CNN Films forward.”
Sexton was also behind Participant Media’s attempt to resurrect former president Jimmy Carter’s legacy with “Jimmy Carter Man From Plains.”
RNC Communications Director Sean Spicer has already commented on the hiring:
Any concerns the Clinton team had are all gone. This puts the ‘P’ in puff piece[.] What’s next: Michael Moore directing?”
CNN had asked the RNC to wait and see the final product before making their decision to boycott.
