American Bloggers Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer have been banned from entering the United Kingdom, the BBC reports. They were expected to appear at a march sponsored by the English Defense League. A government spokesman said Geller and Spencer’s presence in England was “not conducive to the public good.”
The march is planned to commemorate Armed Forces Day on June 29th, ending in Woolwich, south east London, where soldier Drummer Rigby was murdered last month.
Geller, author of the Atlas Shrug blog, and Spencer, of Jihad Watch, are also co-founders of the American Freedom Defense Initiative and worked together on the “Defeat Jihad” poster campaign on the New York subway system. They both railed against the decision on their blogs, calling the ban from entering the UK “a striking blow against freedom” and said the “the nation that gave the world the Magna Carta is dead”.
Parliament member Keith Vaz celebrated the ban by saying, “The UK should never become a stage for inflammatory speakers who promote hate.”
