As someone old enough to remember magazine covers from the seventies declaring Global Cooling an existential threat, let’s just say I know a hustle when I hear one. And now that we have enjoyed 15 years wherein the global temperature has not increased (despite predictions of Manhattan being underwater), it is time for the Global Warming Truthers at the New York Times to hit us with a new line of bull:
The rise in the surface temperature of earth has been markedly slower over the last 15 years than in the 20 years before that. And that lull in warming has occurred even as greenhouse gases have accumulated in the atmosphere at a record pace.
The slowdown is a bit of a mystery to climate scientists. True, the basic theory that predicts a warming of the planet in response to human emissions does not suggest that warming should be smooth and continuous. To the contrary, in a climate system still dominated by natural variability, there is every reason to think the warming will proceed in fits and starts.
Oh, I see… So, we have gone from Global Cooling to Global Warming to Climate Change to Al Gore screaming, “Doom!” to… does not suggest that warming should be smooth and continuous.
Have you ever seen so much goal post moving?
If you want to convince me Climate Change (or whatever they are calling it today) is real, it would help if the True Believers actually lived like it was real, instead of, say, like this. If Al Gore lives like pharaoh, he can’t be all that concerned with that hockey stick.
I would also be less suspicious if scientists weren’t caught lying and if the solution to this so-called crisis didn’t just happen to make every anti-American socialist’s list of priorities come true.
The Times admits openly in this piece that scientists have no idea what is going on and are baffled as to why there has been no further warming of the planet, as so many hysterically predicted. And yet, the Times also takes the position that Global Warming is real and that “deniers” should not be taken seriously.
Who’s anti-science now?
