'SNL' Comes to Obama's Defense on Gun Control

Anyone angry that President Barack Obama hasn’t pushed through sweeping gun control legislation yet should know it’s not his fault.

Saturday Night Live told us so last night.

The April 13 show’s opening monologue appeared to paint Obama (Jay Pharoah) as feckless as he discussed a bipartisan gun control bill currently in the news.

We then hear Sens. Pat Toomey and Joe Manchin describe a bill so watered down it won’t do a darn thing to combat gun violence.

Of course, a political comedy series with teeth might make something of how routinely Obama exploits tragedies on his watch like having the mother of a son killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School deliver his weekly address.

Nope.

SNL once dared to comedically punch political bullies in the nose. Now, the show would rather defend the president against criticism. The sketch wrapped with Obama shrugging his shoulders and telling us, “see, this is what I’m up against.”
