Maryland legislators are doing all they can to attract more Hollywood productions to their state. All the while local residents anticipate higher gas prices and watch as their taxes continue to climb, according to the Maryland Reporter.
An emergency bill expanding existing tax credits for film and TV production from $7.5 million to $25 million passed in the House of Delegates Tuesday , 108 votes to 31.
Some state Democrats defended the Hollywood tax incentives as being beneficial to the local economy.
“There’s probably not many programs that have a demonstrated success rate like this one does,” said Del. Melony Griffith, D-Prince George’s.
Among the productions which recently filmed in the state are Netflix’s House of Cards, the HBO series Veep and the HBO telepicture Game Change.
MD conservatives may be wondering why more of their tax dollars are going to content like Game Change, the award-winning skewering of Tea Party favorite Gov. Sarah Palin.
