A vulnerable incumbent Massachusetts Democrat was so angry that a Republican tracker was following him that he called for the “troops” to “stomp” him.
According to a Boston Globe report, when Rep. John Tierney (D-MA), who barely won re-election in 2012 and whose wife has been plagued with legal troubles, saw the tracker following him at a Democratic event on Friday, he appeared to say, “You got to be kidding. In here? We ought to get the troops and stomp him.”
Though Tierney appears to say “stomp” in the video footage that the Globe obtained, his spokesman claimed that Tierney said “stop,” rather than “stomp.”
Tierney, according to the Globe, “is considered the most politically vulnerable member of Congress from Massachusetts.” He faces primary challenges from multiple Democrats and a potential rematch against Republican Richard Tisei, who almost defeated him in 2012.
The Rothenberg Report has the race rated “Toss-Up/Tilt Democrat” and noted that Tierney’s seat “looks like an excellent Republican opportunity.”
The decline in Tierney’s favorability accelerated after his wife pleaded guilty in 2010 to “aiding and abetting the filing of false tax returns for her brother, a federal fugitive who has been indicted on charges of illegal gambling and money laundering.”
